i'm really tired. i haven't been able to sleep well since coming here, actually looking forward to going home on fri even though it's just for the weekend. i miss my dogs very much. anyway, if it's anything, the chinese learning curve here is very steep. my speech and writing has increase like 10 fold ever since i stopped using it in sec school. wait till i get localized, no problem understanding the various chinese accents.

updates-wise, i'm actually sick of peking duck. had another one at the hyatt's made in china, some atas restaurant found in the luxe guide which is apparently really good (and expensive), it is getting colder but not snowing yet, i met r's really friendly and funny friend who's working here, cabs here are really cheap but the buses&trains are ridiculously cheap, i ate the nicest mochi i've ever eaten today and most importantly, i realise that experience/knowledge does not come with age.

i've bought my furry little uggs ,which i wear nice and snug everyday, and leggings with wool on the inside (the chinese are so innovative), so i don't have to wear boring pants suit everyday already!

while walking out to get coffee today, it finally hit me that i'm in china (partly also cos it was a friday and the weekend was looming). business chinese is really giving me a headache. the weather now is pretty good though i'm still waiting for it to snow. eating well everyday (my stomach acclimatises faster than me). i haven't unpacked, been living out of the suitcase. lazy to type more, so i'll just let the photos do the talking, starting from now. (i've been called a shutterbug already)

on the cab. morning jam.

While going to get coffee.

halal hotpot to cater for the muslims. it has good reviews and it was really good! the dishes are quite unique though. i'm not daring enough to try them yet.

Photobucket

hehe check out the types of dishes.

Photobucket

the food we actually ordered. i loved the thinly sliced beef, hence the big fat smile. (in case you didn't notice. i can't hold a chopsticks for nuts, so i'll have to learn that here too)

Photobucket

pretty huh, and everyone's thickly bundled up.

Photobucket

the trees have lost all their leaves. i like the bright flashing lights, makes the place feel extra vibrant.

Photobucket

we had a team dinner at golden jaguar which has an insane spread of food.

after eating so much, we decided to take a leisurely stroll back in the cold since it's nearby. my colleague was nice and carried my laptop for me while i happily snapped away.

Photobucket

we were deceived by the crowd and went in for lunch. turned out it was a fast food place catered for the locals.

Photobucket

italian restaurant called gino's cafe. it was yummy and had fantastic set lunches. i really liked the seafood salad!

then there was the occasional fast food meals since it's nearby and fussfree but does't taste as good as the singapore ones, plus they don't have chili sauce. only ketchup.

it's amazing china allows livejournal since they ban facebook, blogspot and youtube. so annoying. i decided to use this space to chronicle my time here since there's nothing much to watch on tv either.

today's weather has been great. cold and sunny. i slipped and fell at the airport cos of slippery heels and walking too fast. flight had horrible turbulance, my stomach was churning. it was so bad, the stewardess actually fell to her knees while pushing the cart. alright, back to today. i ate alot. breakfast buffet, taiwanese dishes with the other teams, peking duck (1/2 was mine) and miscellaneous for dinner. staying at lee garden which is right next to wang fu jing. i haven't had the time to explore but it's the upmarket shopping area ie. shopping malls etc. i'm looking forward to the locals markets etc though. more interesting.

meetings in chinese, translating english to chinese (try portfolio analysis for a start), being a translator for my nonchinese colleague. hiyoh.

okay it's been a long time since i've put up photos. since i'm waiting for my hair to dry, i'll just piece together some now.

that's my last min buy which cost me a bomb. and i love window seats on planes.

Photobucket

fried scorpion on cracker anyone? the dishes the chinese come up with for the duck..., peking duck! yummmms

Photobucket

my small but cosy studio. no worries, housekeeping is coming in tmr.
